Meet Dr. Justin Maccaro, Orthodontist in Garden City for All Ages

Dr. Justin Maccaro joined Maccaro Orthodontics & Pediatric Dentistry in November 2015, adding orthodontic care to the pediatric dental office founded by his father, Dr. Henry Maccaro. He provides orthodontic care for children, teens, and adults.

“Being an orthodontist is an amazing job. I get to give my patients something that can positively affect them for the rest of their lives. I often think about the milestones ahead for them—graduations, job interviews, weddings—and how their smile will be with them through all of it.

Orthodontics is also a lot of fun! Each patient’s case feels like a unique puzzle for me to solve. I figure out exactly where I want their smile to go and the best way to get there. I strongly believe in combining the most advanced care options with a traditional, hands-on approach to provide the best of both worlds.

The most enjoyable part of being an orthodontist is building relationships with my patients and their families. I love seeing patients regularly throughout treatment, and I often have the opportunity to treat siblings and sometimes even their parents. Dr. Justin received advanced training in the latest orthodontic innovations, including Invisalign, 3D imaging and diagnosis, airway and breathing analysis, and computer-assisted digital orthodontics. During residency, he was recognized by faculty and peers for his treatment efficiency and clinical proficiency and completed more patient cases than any previous resident in the program’s history.

Dr. Maccaro’s treatment planning is esthetically driven and tailored to each patient. He emphasizes precise bracket positioning and efficient treatment, uses Pitts21 self-ligating braces, and takes a conservative non-extraction approach when clinically appropriate.

Dr. Maccaro is a guest lecturer for orthodontic residents at Montefiore Einstein. He teaches Pitts Protocols and Pitts21 self-ligating clinical techniques, esthetically driven treatment planning, and conservative non-extraction approaches when clinically appropriate. He also speaks with residents about patient communication, private-practice leadership, business, and real-world situations they may encounter after training.

Dr. Maccaro also lectures nationally on esthetically driven, efficient orthodontic treatment and Pitts21 clinical protocols. This has included presentations for OC Orthodontics during the American Association of Orthodontists Annual Session, as well as meetings around the country. He completed the Pitts Masters course and participates in an invitation-only Pitts study club. He also remains current on research findings through peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Maccaro lives in Long Island City with his husband, Ben, and their cats, Teddy and Cricket.

• A true Italian, one of Dr. Maccaro’s main passions is food. He loves cooking and baking, enjoying his family’s homemade Italian food, and discovering new restaurants.
• In his free time, Dr. Maccaro loves traveling with Ben and exploring new places. He also enjoys keeping up with the latest films, discovering old classics, and discussing favorite movies and travel adventures with his patients.
